Douglas Denies Wedding Report

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Michael Douglas denied a report on Thursday that he and fiancee Catherine Zeta-Jones were planning a wedding at a resort in Santa Barbara on Sept. 30 with a spokesman saying the couple has never even heard of the place.

Britain's Sun newspaper said Douglas, 55, and Welsh-born Zeta-Jones, 30, had chosen a luxury holiday complex as the venue for their wedding, just weeks after the actress gave birth to their son, Dylan, on Aug. 9.

``There's not an ounce of truth about Michael and Catherine'' in the report, said Allen Burry, a spokesman for Douglas' Further Films production company. ``They are not getting married on the 30th; they are not getting married at this place; they don't even know what it is.''

The couple plans to marry by the end of the year, but no date or place has been set, Burry said. Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who share a Sept. 25 birth date, met at the Deauville Film Festival in France in August 1998, began dating in March 1999 and got engaged on New Year's Eve.

It turns out the resort mentioned in the Sun, the Spanish-style Bacara Resort and Spa, opens Sept. 1. A spokeswoman for the resort also said the story was untrue.

Douglas, son of Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas, has starred in such box office hits as ``Fatal Attraction,'' ``Wall Street,'' ''The American President'' and ``Basic Instinct.'' He was last seen on screen earlier this year in ``Wonder Boys.''

Zeta-Jones, who started her career in the British television series ``Darling Buds of May,'' went on to carve a film career with hits including ``Entrapment'' and ``The Mask of Zorro.''
