Hip-Hop, Soul Divas Will Waltz to 'Tango'
Thu December 12, 2002 03:38 AM ET
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Miramax is hoping audiences will be dancing in the old cell block the way they did with "Lady Marmalade" a year and a half ago.

Rappers Queen Latifah and Lil' Kim and neo-soul diva Macy Gray have recorded a version of "Cell Block Tango" to coincide with the release of "Chicago," Miramax's film version of the Kander and Ebb musical. In the film Catherine Zeta-Jones does the song.

The hip-hop version, produced by Ric Wake, will be included on the soundtrack, to be released Jan. 14 by Sony. "Lady Marmalade," the old Labelle hit, was recorded by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya and Pink for the Fox film "Moulin Rouge" and became a Grammy-winning smash hit in summer 2001.
