Zeta-Jones and Douglas Trial to Go Ahead
LONDON (Reuters) -
Hollywood couple Michael Douglas (news) and
Catherine Zeta-Jones (news) failed Monday to bring an early end to
their legal fight against a celebrity magazine that published
photographs of their wedding.
The Oscar-winning actor and his Welsh actress wife lost
their bid to have the defense case thrown out a preliminary
hearing at London's High Court.
The pair are suing Hello! magazine for $3.27 million after
it printed unauthorized photos of their lavish New York wedding
in November 2000.
During Monday's hearing, senior judge Andrew Morritt
criticized Hello! but said its defense should be heard at a
trial due to begin next Monday.
Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who are expected in court, will
argue the magazine breached their right to privacy by printing
The couple sold the rights for their official wedding
photos to OK! magazine, Hello!'s rival, in a reported
Hello! published their own photos of the wedding three days
before OK!, prompting Zeta-Jones to say she felt "heartbroken."
Douglas, 58, is the son of veteran, dimple-chinned actor
Kirk Douglas (news). Zeta-Jones, 33, is expecting the couple's second
child within weeks.
