Zeta-Jones and Douglas Trial to Go Ahead
Mon January 27, 2003 02:37 PM ET
LONDON (Reuters) - Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones failed Monday to bring an early end to their legal fight against a celebrity magazine that published photographs of their wedding.

The Oscar-winning actor and his Welsh actress wife lost their bid to have the defense case thrown out a preliminary hearing at London's High Court.

The pair are suing Hello! magazine for $3.27 million after it printed unauthorized photos of their lavish New York wedding in November 2000.

During Monday's hearing, senior judge Andrew Morritt criticized Hello! but said its defense should be heard at a trial due to begin next Monday.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who are expected in court, will argue the magazine breached their right to privacy by printing the pictures.

The couple sold the rights for their official wedding photos to OK! magazine, Hello!'s rival, in a reported one-million-pound deal.

Hello! published their own photos of the wedding three days before OK!, prompting Zeta-Jones to say she felt "heartbroken."

Douglas, 58, is the son of veteran, dimple-chinned actor Kirk Douglas. Zeta-Jones, 33, is expecting the couple's second child within weeks.
