Medics on standby for Catherine

Medics on standby for Catherine
11.26AM GMT, 10 Mar 2003

An ambulance and medics will be on standby for Catherine Zeta Jones at this year's Oscars ceremony, it has been reported.

Heavily pregnant Catherine, 33, is determined to attend the star-studded occasion on March 23.

She has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Velma Kelley in the smash hit Chicago, which is leading the pack with 13 nominations.

But hubby Michael Douglas, 58, is worried all the excitement could bring on labour and has insisted the medics are present.

The Welsh beauty is due to have her second child at the Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, where she gave birth to Dylan, two.

The hospital is just three miles from the Kodak Theatre, where the Oscars are being held, but the road is often gridlocked.

Catherine said: "They can roll me in on a stretcher. All I am worried about is my waters breaking. That would be so embarrassing.

Last night, Catherine picked up yet another award for her role in the smash hit musical and looked stunning in a full-length purple strapless dress with matching stole as she accepted her prize.
