SHIP AHOY! FOR SINBAD LAUNCH

Jul 31 2003

A SPECTACULAR 19th Century replica vessel sailed into the Wharf last Thursday (July 26) for the launch party of Dreamworks' star-studded new animated film Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

The film features the voices of Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michelle Pfeiffer.

The Swan Fan Makkum, along with captain and owner Willem Sligtingwhich, took a break from it's Summer tour of Europe visiting Tall Ships events to dock at Woolwich Arsenal Pier.

It then sailed down the Thames during the film's launch party last Thursday (July 24)

In the movie Sinbad (Pitt), the famous Arabian sailor, is framed by Eris, the Goddess of Chaos (Pfeiffer) for stealing the Book Of Peace.

To clear his name, and save the life of his best friend Proteus the Shapeshifter (Joseph Feinnes), Sinbad must battle against giant scorpions, serpents and 40-foot-tall birds, all while trying to deal with Proteus' girlfriend Marina (Zeta-Jones), who travels to sea with him to ensure he completes his mission.

The Swan Fan Makkum's visit is the third time this month that the Wharf has seen a star attraction in its docks.

In last week's Wharf we reported the arrival of St. Peters, the country's only floating church, and on July 10 we also brought you a glimpse of The Minerva II, the biggest ship to sail into London for 70 years, cruising past Canary Wharf after a naming ceremony at London Bridge.
