TV builder John "Cocksy" Cocks will soon start building a bach on the Coromandel. The star of My House My Castle has quit his behind-the-scenes job at Julie Christie's Touchdown company but will continue his interests as a frontman builder for the show. "I'll commute to Auckland for the presenting work," he says.
SOUL singer Renee Geyer says Australian Idol is an insult to real musicians. "The criteria is, `Impress me in 30 seconds!' And already, right there, you are on a losing streak," Geyer, 49, said. "I am not anti-Idol, but I liken it to putting a red sock in the dryer with the rest of your washing, then waiting to see if that red sock stays in the same position as it spins around." She said Idol was riveting TV but with very little relevance to music.
CATHERINE Zeta-Jones dreams of remaking the War of the Roses with her husband Michael Douglas, who starred in the 1989 black comedy with Kathleen Turner about a vicious marriage break-up. "I love that movie War of the Roses. I say to my husband it would be great to remake that with me and him because we'd really get down to serious business," she said.
HOLLYWOOD star Johnny Depp said America was a stupid, aggressive puppy and he would not live there until the political climate changed. The 40-year-old actor, who stars in the Pirates of the Caribbean, said he was happier staying in the south of France with his wife, French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, and their two children. "America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said. Depp slammed George W Bush's administration for its criticism of French opposition to the US-led war in Iraq.
MACAULAY Culkin says he has no regrets about rising to fame at a young age. During his teens, Culkin publicly endured his parents' bitter custody battle over him and his siblings. In 1998, he married actress Rachel Miner when they were 17 - they separated two years later. "I wouldn't trade any of my experiences for anything in the world," Culkin, 23, says.
