BERRY AND BENET SPLIT
Movie beauty Halle Berry has split with husband Eric Benet. The couple announced plans to separate Thursday after two and a half years of marriage.
The Oscar-winning actress says in a statement, "Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together. However, at the this point I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time."
Pals say the split comes because Benet's career woes were dragging her down, and those close to the couple believe she was unable to take anymore stress.
Benet openly admitted to cheating on the actress and went
to rehab for sex addiction, and in the time since he has been concentrating on his
But his new material failed to spark much interest -- and, according to gossip bible PageSix.com, he spiraled into depression.
A source close to the couple says, "During the summer he was out drinking
wine and just kept going on about how his music wasn't selling. He wasn't good
company, and Halle wasn't happy about how he's been wallowing in self-pity.
"Eric is distraught. He doesn't want to go out. He just wants to spend time
alone, moping around their home. His friends have been trying to get him to go
out, but I think he is afraid he will just burst into tears in a public place. He is
very, very upset."
UMA BEARS UP IN WAKE OF 'DIFFICULT' ETHAN SPLIT
"Kill Bill" star Uma Thurman is "holding up" in the wake of her devastating split
from cheating spouse Ethan Hawke, and remains philosophical about the
Hawke reportedly strayed with Canadian model Jen Perzow on the set of his
latest movie, "Taking Lives," despite being married to the stunner, with
whom he has two young children.
And, although Thurman is currently trying to work her way through her own
heartache, she insists she wouldn't change the past.
Uma says, "I'm holding up. I don't know what to say because it is a difficult time
and I am not exactly sure what to make of everything myself.
"As it is, I'm just trying to figure things out. To be a successful person you have
to be willing to grow and take your blessings and your knocks in your stride. You
have to be brave.
"It's very difficult. But the pros of having a family have been amazing for me. I
basically slipped into having a family five years ago and they've been some of the
happiest years of my life. It has been an opportunity for me to rebuild myself and I
almost feel I have been born again.
"The strength I get from that and the love that I feel for being a mother is pretty
unlimited and I wouldn't trade it for anything."
SMITH PARTIES UP A STORM IN LONDON
Actor Will Smith made the most of his brief promotional trip to England, spending 48 hours partying in London.
The hunky actor -- married to beauty Jada Pinkett-Smith -- flew to Britain to attend the premiere of "Bad Boys II" and didn't waste time taking in the capital's vibrant nightlife.
The night before the premiere Will delighted clubbers at plush nightspot Ten Rooms by performing a freestyle rap and dancing the night away.
Then at the aftershow party -- which reportedly cost $80,000 -- the star knocked back Cristal champagne at the trendy Sketch club in Soho.
Only one thing tainted the actor's night -- the absence of his wife.
He says, "It'd be cool if my wife Jada could be here, but she's filming with Tom Cruise at the moment. It's so good for the ego having all these people here for you, shouting your name."
GROHL REMEMBERS TENDER SIDE OF COBAIN
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has a great memory of former
bandmate Kurt Cobain -- the late Nirvana singer once told him he felt like a
"brother" to him.
The two rockers met after Grohl won a place in the acclaimed grunge band as
they began their quest for stardom, and a comment made by the singer soon after has stuck with Grohl.
He says, "On the first tour I did with Nirvana in England in 1990, I'd only been in
the band for about a month. We went out drinking at some bar where they were
playing Ride and My Bloody Valentine, s*** like that.
"Kurt was drunk and he came up to me and he said, 'Man, I'm so glad you're in
this band, you have no idea. We really feel like you're a brother to us and we're so
happy and thankful that you joined the band and made us what we are.'
"That was great. It was the only time he ever said anything like that."
BEYONCE'S DIVA ALTER EGO
R&B superstar Beyonce Knowles is a self-confessed schizophrenic who
constantly has to battle an inner diva she calls Sasha.
Just like Mariah Carey admitted to having a bitchy British alter ego -- who
actually appeared in her videos -- Beyonce feels there are times in her life when
her other character takes over.
But so far, she has been able to limit Sasha to appearing through her on stage
She reveals, "I become a complete diva. I have a funny voice that I put on. It's
my little diva personality, Sasha.
"I know I have this power, confidence, sexiness and strength that I still have
offstage, but it's different.
"Offstage, I'm a person who believes in principles and I treat people like I want to
ZETA-JONES WOULD QUIT CAREER FOR KIDS
Despite winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for "Chicago," Catherine Zeta-Jones still puts family first -- and would even give up her career for her children.
The mother-of-two has worked hard to get her career off the ground, but insists if
it came to the crunch, husband Michael Douglas and children Dylan and
Carys would always take priority.
She says, "I always hate ever saying 'juggle' -- how could I possibly juggle my
children and my husband, the love of my life? If something would have to go it's
certainly not my husband or my kids. The obvious choice would be goodbye
"The big difference has been my scheduling in the last few years.
"Before, I would get asked, 'Do you want to go to Moscow and be in a movie?',
and I would say, 'Yes! Consider me on that plane!'
"Now I have two children and there are certain places I wouldn't be able to make
movies or to be away from my kids for too long. I can't just pack up and go,
although having said that, Michael and I are like gypsies, we're always going
NICOLE AND RENEE STICK TOGETHER
Nicole Kidman is so fond of her "Cold Mountain" co-star Renee Zellweger, she's even given her the adorable nickname Tweety.
The A-list duo joined Jude Law and Renee's current beau Jack White in the hotly tipped new movie, and Kidman found she'd made a real friend in Renee.
She gushes, "She's so loose, you know? She'll try anything, and she's just easy to be around. And she has the most adorable lips in the world! She has such a great face, like Tweety. That's what I'd call her.
"It's a crazy world out there. So I said to Renee, 'I'm here for you any time. You can call me if it gets too much.'
"And she offered me the same, because we're both kind of alone in the industry."
BRITNEY: THERE'S A FINE LINE BETWEEN SEXY AND SLUTTY
Pop beauty Britney Spears is happily embracing her new sexy image --
because she's convinced there is nothing slutty about it.
The singer has come under fire in recent weeks after
smooching Madonna at the MTV VMA Awards and appearing live
in a series of skimpy outfits.
But Britney is sure her new look is tasteful and attractive, rather than making her
look like a "slut."
She says, "This is more sensual than sexual. I think when you're being sexual
and really putting yourself out there, there's nothing really sacred anymore about
it. It's mischievous, that's my interpretation of it.
"Sometimes you see a girl in a video and you think, 'God, she looks such a
slut,' so you've got to make sure you're not too vulgar."
MEG RYAN: I HOPE TO MARRY AGAIN
Hollywood divorcee Meg Ryan is carrying on her quest for love despite her
acrimonious split from Dennis Quaid taint her views on marriage -- she's looking
for husband number two.
The actress left Quaid after falling for "Proof of Life" co-star Russell Crowe -- but that romance quickly fizzled out under the glare of intense media coverage.
However, Ryan -- mother to 11-year old Jack -- remains optimistic about love.
She says, "I believe in marriage. I like the idea of two people being on the same side and that they will work together and form a life. I would love to find that."
SIXX SUES OVER SHOE AD
Mötley Crüe rocker Nikki Six is suing skateboarding shoe giants Vans for
allegedly using his image in a print ad without his permission.
The bassist claims a photograph featuring him and skateboarder pal Tony Trujillo taken in San Francisco, Calif., is being used to sell shoes.
Sixx states that he posed for the photo at a skateboarding event organized by
Thrasher magazine and sponsored by Vans, but he had no idea the photo
would be used as promotion.
