Uma kills the competition

Uma getting out of here
Quentin Tarantino is back on top of the US box office, after Kill Bill Volume 1, slaughtered the competition.

The martial arts epic which stars Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah and Vivica A. Fox, opened in first place with $22.2m.

"The reality of what it took to make this movie, luckily only unfolded to me little by little, because I think if anyone had ever shined a real light on what I had in front of me, I would have balked in fear," Thurman told Entertainment Tonight.

The film was originally envisioned as one movie, but due to its three hours plus running time, Tarantino made it into Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, the latter of which will be released in February. But judging by public's strong reception, Vol. 2 is bound to break the first films records.

School of Rock, staring Jack Black, took second place with an estimated $15.4m, while Intolerable Cruelty, the Coen brothers dark comedy starring George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones lay at third with an estimated opening of $13.1m.

We bet Catherine is livid.

Hot on the heels of Intolerable Cruelty was Good Boy!, a family film about a talking dog from outer space, which fetched an estimated $13m.

The picture cost less than $18m to produce and was only expected to bring home $10m.

So you see, kids and animals really can make money, just as long as Eddie Murphy isn't in it.
