£1.5m storm bill for Douglas
16 October 2003

Pssst...Michael Douglas has been landed with a £1.5million repair bill after his luxury Bermuda hotel was hit by a 120mph hurricane.

But the actor said he was lucky as he was due to return to the island the day Hurricane Fabian hit.

The storm - the most powerful for 80 years - killed four people and left 25,000 without power last month. Douglas, 59, said he decided to stay with his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, and their two children in New York 'and watch the storm on TV'.

His 48-room Ariel Sands Beach Club hotel has since reopened.
