How the stars stay in shape

Feb 26 2004

By The Journal

Catherine Zeta Jones moved to Hollywood six years ago, got on to the books of one of the most powerful agents and finally made it big thanks to The Mask Of Zorro. She is now said to be earning 15m a film.

Catherine, who is 5ft 8in and 34-25-36, says: "I've always gone for the natural look, and avoid heavy make-up because it clogs my skin. But I love a dash of colour so I go for bright lipstick. Luckily, with my olive-colouring and hazel eyes, I can take strong colours."

She has a strawberry birthmark on her left leg which shows up when she's nervous.

"I am very aware of my body and spend a lot of time in front of the mirror wondering if I've put any inches on my bottom - but I'm not vain. I do plenty of dancing and advanced aerobatics and weight-training to stay in trim. I spend part of the time on the machines and the rest using dumb-dells and barbells. But I weigh more than I used to, probably because I'm happier now."

"I am against diets. I eat when I'm hungry, three meals a day. I prefer salads, fish and a bit of chicken now and again, with a glass of dry white wine. I love pasta and am partial to the occasional avocado with prawns. I don't think I've eaten chips since I was 14. I drink skimmed milk."

Since having children she has had a craving for beetroot.

She has instructed her lawyers to stamp out media reports that credit her post-pregnancy weight loss to the controversial Atkins Diet.

Love life

She has been chatted up by boys for as long as she can remember.

Among those who have fallen for her charms are film director Nick Hamm, former Blue Peter and This Morning presenter John Leslie, Angus MacFayden of Soldier Soldier, David Essex, Paul McGann and Alan Ladd Jnr.

She is married to Michael Douglas and they have two children, Dylan, three, and baby Carys.
