The sports spoof is expected to earn $30m (£16m) in ticket sales on its opening weekend in North America.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban fell to third place after holding the US top spot for two weeks.
Global box office takings rose to $263m (£144m), after the Potter film opened in Spain and Indonesia this weekend.
Despite Spain's crucial Euro 2004 football match on Sunday with rivals Portugal, the Harry Potter adventure still attracted more than one million cinema-goers in Spain.

Now showing in 48 global territories, Prisoner of Azkaban raked in a further $17.4m (£9.5m) in the US at the weekend.
Director Steven Spielberg's new film The Terminal, starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones, took second place in the US box office chart, earning $18.7m (£10m).
Action star Vin Diesel's latest movie, The Chronicles of Riddick - a sequel to the 2000 box office hit Pitch Black - dropped from second place to number seven with takings of $8.3m (£4.5m).
While Around the World in 80 Days, the latest remake of the 1872 Jules Verne novel starring British comedian Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan, entered in ninth place taking $6.8m (£3.7m).
