Director Steven Spielberg's new film The Terminal, starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones, took second place in the US box office chart, earning $18.7m (10m).

Action star Vin Diesel's latest movie, The Chronicles of Riddick - a sequel to the 2000 box office hit Pitch Black - dropped from second place to number seven with takings of $8.3m (4.5m).

While Around the World in 80 Days, the latest remake of the 1872 Jules Verne novel starring British comedian Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan, entered in ninth place taking $6.8m (3.7m).
