Card sent to Kirk Douglas

From Anthony Harwood In New York

CATHERINE Zeta Jones was taunted with an invitation to her own funeral by a woman stalker obsessed with the actress's husband Michael Douglas.

Dawnette Knight, 32, sent Michael's frail father, movie legend Kirk Douglas, the chilling mock invite to his daughter-in law's wake.

Written on a card which carried a tiny picture of the star it read: "Home Grown celebration for Catherine Zeta Jones. Obituary - Mrs Catherine Zeta Jones. Goodbye to the solemnized. ASAP - Time. Place - Catholic church, Wales."

The Oscar-winning Welsh star will this week come face to face in court with Knight when she testifies - accompanied by her husband Michael.

Details of Knight's reign of terror - which lasted a year - were revealed in the Los Angeles courtroom yesterday.

Shocking excerpts were read out including the mock funeral invite, several death threats and a false accusation that the actress was carrying George Clooney's child.

Fourteen letters went to 87-year-old Kirk Douglas and wife Anne.

One said: "I hope you know that the baby Catherine is carrying is not Michael's. It's George Clooney's - just wait and see in April."

In one death threat Knight pretended to be the star's ex - shamed TV presenter John Leslie.

That letter read: "You need to let Catherine know if she hurts Michael I will hire someone to kill her - she will be taken care of ASAP." Knight also posed as Leslie's girlfriend Abi Titmuss in a letter put together from newspaper cuttings which read: "We will kill Catherine Zeta Jones soon."

The court heard Knight had tried to get close to Michael Douglas at a golf tournament in Las Vegas.

She passed a note to his bodyguard which said: "Hello Michael. I think you are the most sexy man alive. Call me, I would love to show you a good time."

Knight's fiance Ronald Calvin, 44, told reporters she was now terrified, adding: "She's a fun-loving girl. She just became infatuated with Douglas."

Her lawyer Richard Herman told reporters that Knight needed help.

He said: "She's a normal person who got caught up in celeb star-struck stuff.

"She had a girlie crush on Michael Douglas."

Knight faces 25 charges including stalking and making criminal threats and faces 19 years in jail.
