Zeta 'death threats'

Dramatic court appearance
The first day of the Catherine Zeta-Jones stalker case saw the Welsh star reading disturbing death and mutilation threats allegedly sent from the accused.

Claiming Zeta-Jones would be chopped into pieces "like Sharon Tate was", and linking the violent deaths of John F Kennedy and murdered wife of OJ Simpson, Nicole Brown Simpson, the actress read excerpts in a quavering voice.

"I knew there were many, many death threats against me," said Zeta-Jones. "I knew they were violent but I did not know they would be as satanic as this."

One letter claimed: "We are going to slice her (Zeta-Jones) up like meat on a bone and feed her to the dogs."

Zeta-Jones spent more than three hours giving testimony, after her husband Michael Douglas had detailed the couple’s ordeal.

The preliminary hearing will gauge if Dawnette Knight will stand trial.

The defendant has apologised for writing the letters, claiming she was infatuated with Michael Douglas.

She was arrested June 3 and charged with one felony count of stalking and 24 felony counts of making criminal threats.
