Zeta-Jones Back In Court

13/12/2004 09:21 AM

The legal battle by Hollywood power couple Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas over Hello! magazine's use of unauthorized photographs of their wedding returns to court this week.

Hello! is appealing against a finding that it invaded the couple's privacy by using the photographs and against the one million pounds (US$1.92 million) damages awarded to the couple and rival magazine OK! which did an exclusive deal to carry the wedding pictures.

The couple had agreed to a one million pound deal under which OK! was to pay them for exclusive pictures of the wedding.

But Hello! rushed into print with paparazzi pictures taken by Rupert Thorpe, 33-year-old son of former Liberal party leader Jeremy Thorpe, who put on a dinner jacket and gatecrashed the star-studded event.

During a High Court hearing at which both Douglas and Zeta-Jones gave evidence, she said she considered the Hello! pictures "sleazy" and felt "violated" when they appeared.

It was claimed Hello! used them as a "spoiler" knowing that OK! had done the exclusive deal.
