Posted Mon, 20 Dec 2004

Jim Carrey snatched film ticket fortune from the all-star caper 'Ocean's 12', grabbing $30.2-million at the North American box office, according to early figures released on Sunday.

Carrey plays a greedy count who wants to steal the inheritance of three orphaned children in 'Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events', a film co-starring Oscar-winner Meryl Streep.

'Ocean's 12', starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Catherine Zeta-Jones, dropped to second place with $18.2-million a week after the sequel to 'Ocean's 11' earned $39.1-million.

The romantic comedy 'Spanglish', starring Paz Vega as a Mexican immigrant hired as a housekeeper by an affluent American couple, debuted third with $9-million. Actress Tea Leoni and comedian Adam Sandler star as the Los Angeles couple.

The animated Christmas adventure 'The Polar Express' starring Tom Hanks in no fewer than five roles, was in fourth place with $8.5-million.

The horror action flick 'Blade: Trinity', with Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson in a tale of a group of vampires seeking to resurrect Dracula, finished fifth with $6.6-million.
