WITH the New Year almost upon us and the award season fast approaching, some of Hollywood's leading ladies have been getting a head start in the frock department.

Keen to forge relationships and get their mitts on the best gowns for the Golden Globes and Oscars, Tinseltown is awash with stressed starlets.

A tad overdressed for a film opening, Catherine Zeta-Jones dazzled recently in pink jewel-encrusted Versace at the Oceans Twelve premiere.

Perhaps she's hoping to bag the Best Wardrobe Award?

Kate Beckinsale and Gwen Stefani evoked true Hollywood glamour at The Aviator premiere in silver-draped Versace and hot pink Dior, respectively.

If you want that 'red carpet-look' for your New Year's Eve party, check out the fantastic celeb-inspired frocksat Warehouse and Topshop.

All of them cost under £100 - a bit more affordable than the £10,000 you need to fork out for the designer versions.

the FADS

THESE days Hollywood stars are more likely to spend their evenings practicing yoga than swigging champagne, but there's no excuse for abstinence on New Year's Eve.

Sex And The City's Sarah Jessica Parker may have introduced the world to the Cosmopolitan, but LA has started a craze for kooky cocktails.

A few Dirty Martinis always seem to get the gals going. This vodka and olive juice mix is a popular choice for Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan at the cool Hollywood club Concord.

The One Inch Punch is the signature drink at the trendy Tokio lounge where Drew Barrymore, Heather Graham and Winona Ryder hang out. Made with Bacardi, this cocktail includes plum wine, Chambord raspberry liqueur and pineapple juice.

Or there's the Diva Delight at the SkyBar - made from brandy, vodka, grenadine and Moet & Chandon champagne. This cocktail is selling like hotcakes in this town.

Sushi Roku, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's fave bar when they're in town, has invented the Saketini. A twist on the classic martini, this is made from Japanese sake, peach juice, cranberry juice and crushed mint.

I'll take mine shaken but not stirred - and served in a vat.
