With just a few weeks to go before the movie industry's most prestigious awards ceremony, two of the event's previous winners have been turning on the glam in New York. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Halle Berry both have a reputation for their red carpet style, and they didn't disappoint when they stepped out at separate showbiz parties in the Big Apple.

Catherine set the flashbulbs blazing at this year's Red Ball in a black satin gown with ruby and diamond necklace and earrings. The 35-year-old, who was accompanied by her husband Michael Douglas, met up with Chicago co-star Richard Gere and his wife Carey Lowell at the charity fundraiser.

Just across town, meanwhile, Halle Berry was making a characteristically exquisite impression at a bash for the movie Lackawanna Blues. With a long mane of straight dark hair, the actress was sporting a new look for the event, which was set off by a figure-hugging white halterneck dress.

Fashionistas readying themselves for the Oscars later this month are expecting nothing but the best from the Catwoman star. And if her choice of footwear is anything to go by, they are in for a treat, because designer Stuart Weitzman will reportedly be providing her with a pair of $1-million diamond-encrusted shoes.
