First Welsh kids' hospital opens

Hussain Khalid
The first children's hospital in Wales has opened its doors in Cardiff.

The first patient at the Children's Hospital for Wales was 21-month-old Hussain Khalid. He was taken on to the Land ward, one of two medical wards.

It was funded by the Noah's Ark Appeal charity, and also has a children's cancer ward. There are also plans to build an intensive care unit.

Celebs including Charlotte Church and Catherine Zeta Jones have helped the appeal raise 7m for the hospital.

Hussain's mum, Shazana Khalid, said she thought the ward would help children, and called it "wonderful".

It's hoped that the second stage of building on the hospital will start soon.
