Mr. And Mrs. Smith Release Date: June 10, 2005 Starring: Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Adam Brody, Vince Vaughn, Angela Bassett, Kerry Washington, Patrika Darbo, Stephanie March Directed by: Doug Liman
Who better than two of the world's most obsessed-over sex symbols to play married assassins, each on a mission to kill the other? Although director Doug Liman (Swingers, The Bourne Identity) had such names as Will Smith, Nicole Kidman, and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the mix at various points, Brad Pitt finally agreed to play the bored husband after Angelina Jolie signed on to be his equally bored wife. "I thought it was a fun concept, having been married twice and not quite figured it out myself," Jolie says. "When we meet the couple, they're in therapy, and you come to think each of them has some secret life going on. And then you realize they both are hit men." Jolie, already proficient in a variety of killing techniques after her Tomb Raider outings, focused on the comedy and the emotion of the film, with a little help from Pitt. "I'd never been to a marriage counselor," she says. "Just sitting around talking with the producers and the writers and the director and trying to analyze things, that's what we did the most of. Trying to make sure that the story underneath was also solid."
