CELEBRITY RYDER CUP
CATHERINE Zeta Jones is to take on husband Michael Douglas in a celebrity version of golf's Ryder Cup.
The Welsh actress will play for a European team and he is set to represent America, it was confirmed yesterday.
And the two-day event will be screened on Ant and Dec's TV show. The Geordie presenters are golf nuts and the match was their idea.
US glitterati lined up for the "All Star Cup" include actors Rob Lowe, Patrick Duffy, Cheryl Ladd and Haley Osment - as well as singer Kenny G, tennis player Michael Chang and swim great Mark Spitz.
The European team includes Boris Becker, Sir Steve Redgrave, Ronan Keating, James Nesbitt, Chris Evans, Jodie Kidd and Wales rugby union player Gavin Henson.
Bob Massie, boss at TWI, makers of the show, said: "Competition will be fierce. They all play to win." The Europeans will be led by Colin Montgomerie. Mark O'Meara is the Americans' non-playing captain.
Catherine dropped her love of golf into the conversation when she met her husband-to-be six years ago, knowing he was also a fanatic.
She recalled: "I said, 'by the way, I do play golf'. He was like: 'She plays GOLF? Thank you, God!" The squads will compete at the 2010 Ryder Cup venue, the Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales, over the August Bank Holiday.
There is just one handicap - the US team has 12 golfers, one less than the Europeans.
But organisers claim both teams will be par-fectly matched.
