Zeta and Michael dining in on Wales' best

Aug 25 2005

By Antony Stone

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas have hired a gourmet chef from their favourite seaside restaurant to personally to cook their favourite meals in their £2 million mansion.

But far from being the latest “must-have” accessory for California’s super-rich, the chef is from Zeta Jones’s native Swansea.

The couple have been enjoying a low-key break with children Dylan and Carys at the luxury mansion they had built in the fishing village of Mumbles.

And despite frequently dining out in the area’s best restaurants they also have a unique arrangement with the nearby Knights Restaurant.

Gourmet chef and owner Michael Knight, 42, was only too pleased to oblige when the couple asked whether they could order out his high class cuisine.

His highly successful restaurant serves “new world cuisine” and specialises in fish apparently a firm favourite with the celebrity couple.

“After coming in for a meal a couple of weeks ago they came back and asked whether we could prepare meals for them when they were at home,” Mr Knight said.

“I said I could do better than that and agreed to go up there and cook whenever they wanted.

“I provide them with daily menus and they give me a call when they want something. I’ve been up there about four or five times.

“It is very relaxed, they are very nice , and it is never for more than about nine people so it is hardly stressful.

“I take some of my pots and pans with me, use some of theirs, and cook in their kitchen. The kitchen is way bigger than mine.

“But it is very relaxed. Michael comes in and tastes the food and when its ready he helps carry the plates. Everyone mucks in. They are very nice.”

The couple have been regular visitors to the area’s golf courses over the last month and are set to play in a celebrity event in Newport.

Over the Bank Holiday they will take part in Sky One’s All Star Cup at the luxury Celtic Manor Resort outside the city.
