DALLAS: THE MOVIE
Travolta lined up as JR in a big-screen version
By Cameron Robertson

OIL drama Dallas is coming to the big screen, with John Travolta set to play scheming JR.

The Pulp Fiction star is favourite to land Larry Hagman's old TV role in the £75million movie.

Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones have also been sounded out about playing the oil baron.

But an insider said: "John is top of the list. He's reading the script and deciding if he can fill the big boots of JR.

"This will be on the scale of western The Big Country, but in modern days."

Jack Nicholson is being lined up as JR's arch enemy Cliff Barnes, originally portrayed by Ken Kercheval. Catherine Zeta-Jones is favourite to play JR's wife Sue Ellen - Linda Gray in the TV soap - and Matthew McConaughey could take over Patrick Duffy's part as good Ewing brother Bobby.

Drew Barrymore or Reese Witherspoon may play Bobby's wife Pam (Victoria Principal) with Jane Fonda a possible Miss Ellie.

On websites devoted to Dallas - which ran from 1978 to 1991 - Kris Kristofferson is the fans' favourite to star as dad Jock Ewing.

The film will be directed by Robert Luketic, 31. He said: "It's a sprawling, epic movie."

How they would look with Travolta as JR, Fonda in Miss Ellie role, Zeta-Jones as Sue Ellen (far right), McConaughey as Bobby, Witherspoon as Pam, Kristofferson playing Jock, and Lindsay Lohan as Lucy. Inset, Nicholson's Barnes
