It’s the legend of the cursed sequel.
Does anyone even remember that “The Legend of Zorro” was released this summer?
Unfortunately, it did not live up to its 1998 predecessor “The Mask of Zorro,” which was a critical and box-office success. “Legend” lost a ton of money at the box office and was panned by critics. Still, fans of the original might find something redeeming about this flick to plop down $1.50.
In “Legend,” Alejandro “Zorro” de la Vega (Antonio Banderas) and his wife, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, have made a home together. Now that the two have a spry young son, Zorro has put away his mask. But a looming threat forces him to take up the sword again. And this time, his wife comes along for the ride.
The film is rated PG and is playing at St. Andrews Cinema; (803) 772-7469.
