Danny Ocean’s gang is set to return to the big screen in the modern Rat Pack franchise, “Ocean’s Twelve.” A majority of the original ensemble cast is expected to return including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. Pretty woman Julia Roberts and T-Mobile endorser Catherine Zeta-Jones are not expected to return.
Others in the line up to return are Andy Garcia, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin, Carl Reiner, and Elliott Gould.
“The Big Easy” star Ellen Barkin will be the new leading lady in this film. She is said to be playing the interest of Matt Damon’s character, Linus. Little is known about the plot at the present time, although a majority of the action will revolve around a casino.
The first film was shot at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. Producer Jerry Weintraub told Variety that it was too difficult to shoot due to heavy traffic in the casinos as well as paparazzi. As a result, Weintraub says a majority of “Ocean’s 13’s” shoot will take place on five soundstages in Burbank, California, where a fully operational casino will be built.
“The odds were long on this happening, and it would not have been possible were it not for those actors and director moving other projects out of the way,” Weintraub said to Variety. “The five of us are all great friends, and we decided to kill ourselves to get this done.”
Steven Soderbergh will direct a script written by “Rounders” writers, Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Filming of “Ocean’s 13” is set begin on July 21 for a summer 2007 release.
