Audrey beats off Grace to top poll
Audrey Hepburn has beaten off competition from Grace Kelly to be named the most beautiful woman of all time.

Some 5,000 New Woman magazine readers put the My Fair Lady star, who died in 1993, in top spot, with supermodel Cindy Crawford in third.

Ageing Italian lovely Sophia Loren and blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe complete the top five list.

"When it comes to the most beautiful women of all time, head-turning, full-on glamour wins the day," Helen Johnston, the magazine's editor, said.

The women in the list possess "classic, timeless beauty" and "know how to show it off to the best effect", she added.

Princess Diana was voted eighth, while 21st century beauties Catherine Zeta Jones, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry and Scarlett Johansson were also in the top ten.

But there was disappointment for the not-so-shy trio of Jessica Simpson (97th), Paris Hilton (99th) and Anna Kournikova (100th), who only just scraped into the top 100, finishing well below top-heavy model Jordan (68th), Ab Fab star Joanna Lumley (69th) and even newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky (91st).

Top Ten most beautiful women:

1 Audrey Hepburn
2 Grace Kelly
3 Cindy Crawford
4 Sophia Loren
5 Marilyn Monroe
6 Angelina Jolie
7 Catherine Zeta Jones
8 Diana, Princess of Wales
