Kate Beckinsale has revealed she wants to play Wonder Woman.
The 1970s TV show is being adapted into a film due out in 2007.
The British star says she has been getting prepared for the role. She said: “I dressed up as her last Hallowe'en so it would be good to do it again.”
Meanwhile the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, says Hollywood stars Sandra Bullock and Catherine Zeta-Jones are too old to play the sexy superhero.
Carter wants an unknown actress in her 20s to be cast in the big-budget film version of Wonder Woman, set to be shot in Australia next year.
Who will don Wonder Woman's gold bullet-reflecting bracelets and whirl the magic lasso is one of Hollywood's biggest secrets.
The O.C.'s Mischa Barton and Tom Cruise's new love, Katie Holmes, are rumoured to be among the top candidates, along with plenty of other Hollywood actresses such as Jessica Biel.
As for Bullock and Zeta-Jones, Carter is not convinced. “People have talked about Sandra Bullock ... she's too old and so is Catherine Zeta-Jones,” Carter said. Adding: “You want someone that is really fresh.”
Carter said she would be honoured to go to Australia to play a part in the Wonder Woman movie if Hollywood super producer Joel Silver invited her, but only if the role was a good one. She is not interested in a kitschy cameo. “But, if there's a role in which I could tie up loose ends; that would be cool. You know, her mother, a sister.”
