When Tara Matthews went to Brazil she had a hard time finding a bikini as they were, in her words, “sooo tiny”. “However, I loved the Brazilian sensibility and the confidence of the woman and that inspired me,” says the half-Indian, half-British Tara. “So I decided why not try and take that idea and modify it and then make bikinis that are really luxurious and have them hand-embroidered in India.”

Today, the 31-year-old designer has found fans in actor Catherine Zeta Jones and singer Beyonce (who has over 20 swimsuits from Tara's line) as well as Imran Khan's ex-wife Jemima. Tara started her line of designer bikinis four years ago and continues to do the embellishments in India as she thinks the country produces the “the best hand-embroidery in the world”. Tara has now moved on to beach dresses, kaftans and cover ups and is all set to launch a men’s line as well as children’s clothing.
