Nine bosses bone Ray's ego

Veteran television presenter Ray Martin has failed in his latest attempts to pressure the Nine Network into caving to his ego by finally agreeing to host the Sunday program in its earlier 7.30am timeslot.

Martin, who is paid around $2 million for his services, was unhappy about the move forward in the increasingly competitive time slot and had vented his displeasure by telling another newspaper it was an interesting departure from 25 years of tradition.

However, with little other option, he has finally told his bosses at Nine he will co-host the show with Ellen Fanning.

In contrast to Martin, it is understood the real star of the show, Laurie Oakes, was more than happy to adjust his schedule around the changes.

Hollywood hot shot

HOLLYWOOD star Catherine Zeta-Jones is tipped to visit Australia in March for the premiere of Gillian Armstrong's new movie Death Defying Acts, in which she plays a beautiful psychic opposite Guy Pearce.

It's been years since this ravishing Welsh beauty spent time Down Under, where she first caught the golf bug.

Zeta-Jones regularly hits the golf circuit for fundraising events, including her husband's Michael Douglas And Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament.

Perhaps she'll bring her clubs when she comes here.

Oscar joy for Sarah

ACTRESS Sarah Wynter has joined the expanding list of celebrity mums by giving birth to a baby boy in New York.

In an exclusive photograph, proud parents Wynter, 34, and husband Dan Peres revealed their son.

"We are delighted with the birth of our son, Oscar Dallas Wynter Peres,'' the couple told The Sunday Telegraph: "We are all happy and healthy".

Baby Oscar was born on January 14 at 9.23am, weighing in at 2.9kg and measuring 52cm.

Wynter is now a member of the Down Under Hollywood mums' club, with Nicole Kidman also set to join the group. Other Australian stars that have recently become mothers include Naomi Watts, Isla Fisher and Toni Collette. Cate Blanchett's third child is due in April.

Joye to the worldIS Madison editor Paula Joye expanding her media portfolio to include TV presenting?

Rumours are flying that the dazzling blonde, known as a golden girl within ACP ranks, might make a guest appearance on the Aussie version of US show Project Runway.

Switch for Lampe

AMANDA Lampe, the formidable media adviser to former premier Bob Carr, has landed the job as deputy chief of staff to Deputy PM Julia Gillard.

Lampe carved out a reputation for herself as Carr's gate-keeper but has kept a low profile since he resigned from the top job nearly two years ago.

Still on politics, Premier Morris Iemma's former media adviser Todd Hayward has jumped into one of the toughest jobs in this state: chief of staff to struggling Health Minister Reba Meagher. Let's hope Hayward has better luck with the minister than he had with Iemma.

Kudos for ChrisFORMER Home and Away actor Chris Hemsworth's star is definitely on the rise.
Hemsworth, who has just completed filming a lead role alongside Eric Bana in Star Trek XI, has clearly impressed the movie's director JJ Abrams, who was overheard at a dinner party in LA talking about the golden boy.

"He's f****** brilliant," the Emmy Award-winning film and TV honcho told guests.

Keir stays there

ANDREA Keir, who for many years was responsible for Nine's strong relationships with its US studios, has resigned.

Keir is said to have walked away from the lucrative Los Angeles-based position after she was due to return to Australia.

Keir holds a Green Card and will stay on in LA.

The move by Nine smacks of cost cutting. Here's hoping it doesn't backfire on them.

Chef's shuttle

WITH the success of her Sydney restaurant Universal guaranteed, with over 11,000 people dining since the launch in July, celebrity chef Christine Manfield has an even more impressive travel itinerary.

Manfield popped over to Tokyo last weekend to buy some Japanese designer clothes (black as always), eat sushi and research the latest food trends.

Next it's off to India to work on a secret project and then it's off to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta to do master classes at the Ritz Carlton Hotels.

Tamworth tizz

RUMOURS that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman would hit Tamworth's annual Golden Guitar Awards last weekend had the township abuzz.

However, they were just that: rumours sparked by veteran country crooner John Williamson.

Chinese whispers swept through the township of a private jet flying into Tamworth on Australia Day in time for the awards, quicker than you can say boot-scootin' boogie.

But the aircraft was in fact the Australia Zoo private plane (yes, the Irwin clan's little family jet) shepherding Williamson back from the zoo's Australia Day celebrations.
