Zeta-Jones turns Mumbles into ‘Gatwick Airport’

ACTRESS Catherine Zeta-Jones’s surprise visit to Wales has turned her normally quiet Mumbles home into one of the busiest spots in Wales.

As the Western Mail exclusively revealed yesterday, the 38-year-old star returned to her Welsh roots to celebrate her grandmother Zeta Jones’s 91st birthday on Thursday.

Yesterday, residents living near Catherine’s family home at Silverhurst near Bracelet Bay, Mumbles, said a procession of “slow moving” cars had been going past all day.

One neighbour said, “It’s been busier than Gatwick Airport. People have been driving past, slowing down, pointing up at the house, then driving off disappointed they have seen nothing.”

As befits an Oscar-winning actress, Catherine looked the part during her Swansea visit, dressed head to toe in black leather and wearing high-heeled shoes, after arriving at Swansea’s Fairwood Airport early on Thursday on a private jet.

She spent time with her grandmother, from who she took her stage name, at the 91-year-old’s home in Ravenhill, in Swansea’s north side.

A number of photographers were outside the Jones family’s home yesterday but there was no sign of the Oscar-winning actress. It is thought she might be heading back to the US for Sunday’s Oscars.
