ON-screen Hollywood royalty Catherine Zeta-Jones oozes sex appeal and in the flesh her doll-like beauty is tripled to hot, hot, hot.

So it was little surprise that the glamorous Welsh Oscar winner was feeling the heat during a whirlwind three day promotional trip of Sydney today.

“Is it hot in here?” the 38-year-old stunner asked innocently fanning her face with her hand during a press conference at the Sydney Opera House.

“No, it’s just you,” was the media’s response, to which Zeta-Jones blushed, began laughing and put her head in her hands in embarrassment.

“That wasn’t planned,” she smiled.

You decide for yourself ...

Dressed in a vibrant fuchsia coloured dress by renowned Italian designer Roberto Cavalli complete with sky-scrapper Jimmy Choo heels, the wife of veteran actor Michael Douglas candidly talked about everything from being married to a man 25 years her senior to denying rumours she plans to shun “sexy” roles now that’s she’s a mother and nearly 40.

“You see I haven’t actually reached my sexiest point yet,” she said.

“Obviously my career is expanding and I am a mother so I am not going to be rip-roaring around in corsets as a 19 year old … but there is a movie I am doing … and you are going to see a lot more of me. I am not going to be playing old grannies anytime soon.”

As well as slamming speculation she uses caviar to keep her hair looking soft and silky “anyone that think I am dumb enough to put caviar in my hair … it goes straight in the stomach,” the Chicago star also revealed how her son with Douglas, Dylan, 7, is set to walk his talented parents footsteps.

“His first day of acting class he said ‘Oh don’t worry I am a really good actor it’s in my genes’,” Zeta-Jones said seriously. “It was like ‘Oh great, that on his first day of drama class!’”

While feeling jetlagged, the star who had a small part in action movie The Phantom which was filmed in Queensland in 1996, said she was excited to be back in Australia and was looking forward to touring the harbour and perhaps a game of golf.

The actress also dispelled any myths she is a diva, wooing around 30 fans by signing autographs and posing for photographs outside the Opera House following the press conference.

Asked what it’s like to be married to an older man, the multi-talented performer said it worked wonderfully because her husband had already made it in showbiz years ago, which means he can play stay-at-home dad while she continues to hone her craft.

“I don’t know (what it’s like to be married to an older man), until someone tells me he’s 25 years old I don’t think about it,” she said while also admitting she’d love to star opposite her husband in the near future.

“There’s a connection … it works well with the children he can stay at home while I work.”

Joined by her Death Defying Acts co-stars Australian Guy Pearce and Saoirse Ronan, Zeta-Jones said things were also going well for her elderly father-in-law and screen legend Kirk Douglas, with whom she shares a special bond.

“He is 91 and completely in with me, I have to say,” she smiled. “Two new knees have done him the world of good.”

Dazzling in the flesh, the Hollywood actress didn’t rule out ever going under the knife when asked what her thoughts on plastic surgery were, simply saying it was a personal choice.

“Whatever it takes for someone to be happy in themselves,” she said.

Death Defying Acts is a tale about world renowned escapist Harry Houdini, played by Pearce, whose life takes a new direction when he meets con-artist psychic Mary (Zeta-Jones) and her daughter Benji (Ronan).

The movie opens nationally on March 13.
