Jones and Pearce step out for film launch

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Guy Pearce have attended the launch of their new film Death Defying Acts at the Sydney Opera House.

Set in Edinburgh, the film focuses on the famous Harry Houdini (Pearce), who offers a reward for anyone who can contact his departed mother whose death has haunted him.

Zeta-Jones explained that Australian director Gillian Armstrong arranged for her to meet with a psychic to understand what makes them tick.

She said: "In the rehearsal period Gill brought in a real-life psychic. I've never actually been to a psychic before so I was really fascinated by the process, and what kind of quality do you have to have or talent that you can actually do that.

"And this guy was really quite believable, he was very low key. And I wanted to know what to feel like when your channelling or do whatever you do to get to that state of mind. So he kind of changed my whole perspective on it."
