Modest Joanna Page stunned by comparison to fellow Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones

She's the RADA-trained Welsh actress in the hot show that beat all the heavy-hitters to bag two Baftas - but Joanna Page has no designs on Catherine Zeta-Jones's crown.

For one thing, the modest girl insists she's nowhere near as glam as her Mumbles, Swansea, neighbour.

And although the pair both trained at Hazel Johnson's dance school in the town that, says Joanna, is where the similarity ends.

"I think of myself more as a character actress. I think I'm a bit quirky," says Joanna.

"Being compared to Catherine is amazing, she's absolutely stunning and I'm 5ft 2in and make people laugh sometimes, so it's absolutely mad.

"I'd love to be able to dance as well as she can, so if only the comparisons were true!"

When she was four, Joanna clearly remembers being forced to dance in a chicken costume alongside Catherine, and she wasn't too happy about it.

"Everyone was laughing because we were so funny and my mum says that I started crying because I didn't like people laughing at me," says Joanna, who moved to London 10 years ago to train at RADA.

"I was clearly a diva at four years old!"

And as for becoming a telly pin-up - no chance.

"Good god, no," says Joanna, who is married to No Angels actor James Thornton.

"The only sex symbol on our show is James Corden. The ladies absolutely fall over themselves for him.

"He's just like a brother to me now," she says.

"If there's ever a scene where Stacey kisses Smithy, I think I'd burst out laughing.

"I can't look at him and act anymore. I have to say my lines looking at his shoulder."

Despite stripping off to play a naked stand-in actress in the hit rom-com Love Actually, opposite Martin Freeman, Joanna says there's no chance of her appearing in her knickers in the lads' mags.

"I don't think they'd want me!" she says.

"With Love Actually, it was Richard Curtis and Martin Freeman, and it was very innocent.

"It all completely depends on the script. I'm going to be in a play called Fat Pig and I have to appear in a bikini. I'm doing sit-ups every night!"

And there's another reason why Joanna might not fit in with the Hollywood elite - she gets starstruck.

"At the Baftas Alesha Dixon came up and she gave me a kiss and said well done and I couldn't believe she even knew about the show.

"Judi Dench and Eileen Atkins were on the next table and I stared at them all evening. I wanted to go over and say you're the reason I went into acting in the first place but I was too scared."

She's still gobsmacked to discover just how popular her "little show" has become. "I can't believe it won. It's so weird when people come up and talk about it - I still think it's just my parents watching!"

The blonde beauty didn't dare touch a drop of champagne until she had presented the Comedy Programme award with Rob Brydon, and kept herself going with a bag of jelly beans stuffed in her bag.

"I had visions of Rob having to do all the talking because I would have passed out on the floor.

"I had no expectations about us winning an award and when I heard we'd got it, we were nearly crying.

"We drank loads of champagne and passed the Baftas round taking photos of us with them and sending them all to my family."

Joanna insists she's still a down-to-earth Welsh girl at heart which is why she chose a Karen Millen over a designer dress for Sunday.

"I had been in Selfridges until about 8.30pm on Saturday looking for something," she says. "I thought about wearing Vivienne Westwood but when someone's 5ft 2in it's not the same. I saw Tess Daly and she looked stunning - but she's about 5ft 8in."
