If you are interested, I have a more detailed table of the aspects that I have taken into account. Unfortunately, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Elizabeth Hurley is not available at the presen for a Lara Croft type movie, because they are expecting children! So, in my mind Ashley Judd, Kari (Salin) Wuhrer and the digital Lara Croft are the main choices.
For those, who are also interested of actresses left out from the Top 12 (mainly because of age problems) below you can find a more complite list. Injoy it (:-)))!
Known from Tomb Raider 1, Tomb Raider 1 Gold: Unfinished Busines, Tomb Raider 2, Tomb Raider 2 Gold: Golden Mask, Tomb Raider 3, Tomb Raider (4): The Last Revelation , Tomb Raider (5): Chronicles computer games and from many TV comercials and even from video clips, she is the most recognizable digital female character of the world, and is very popular among gamers (boys and girls too). What is the secret of Lara Croft? When the Tomb Raider game came to the world, id software's first person shooter Quake was the king of the gaming world - and represented a very high level of reference for any other 3D game. Tomb Raider was a little bit different from the main stream, because of the 3rd person view, and because of its main character (Lara Croft), who was female - actually quite a pretty one. Her movement was so suprisingly realistic (and ladylike), according to the noble tradition of Prince Of Persia 1-2 by Brotherbund Software, that it could make us forget the pixelation and the polygons of her otherwise very pretty and well-balanced body. Lara also got some high class personality and exciting abilities to use different things. I think for men the game provides a very exciting chance to guide, control and protect (in God-like mode) a beautiful and respectable woman... The spots of the game(s) are large and fascinating, full with mystical puzzles. With the newer versions of the game, Lara is continuously getting nicer and nicer, and her abilities are widening. So, it's a natural ambition to put her into a big budget movie. There are many people aspecting a movie with the digital Lara Croft. I'm sorry to say, but it would be a mistake. We already have the digital Lara in the game, moreover, in interactive form. A film simply can't compete in this respect (:-(((. Another problem is that the quality of the digital representation can become obsolate in very short time (:-(((. So, we need a real woman for the movie, showing the dimensions and colors which are missing from the game, at least at the present. And, we are lucky to have the chance...
Very rarely happens, that a woman of our dreams suddenly turns out to be a real person. But we are sooooooo lucky, who can admire a wonderful young actress named Catherine Zeta-Jones. She is beautiful with a great body, graceful, athletic (actually, acrobatic), and is in intim closeness with dance and music (she used to be a musical actress and British step-dance champion!) as well. She has a strong and beautiful voice to sing! As an actress, she's fresh and instinctly perfect, like Audrey Hepburn, or Natalie Wood several decades ago. Catherine is intelligent, confident, likes adventures and travels quite a lot. She knows exactly, what she is interested in, and is firmly resolved to realize it. In 2000 (August 8) Catherine gave birth to Dylan Michael Douglas Although she is single (still) and lives in her own in a beautiful big villa (where she makes Tai Chi exercises in order to save her fantastic flexibility...), rather family oriented - she has grown up in freedom and love with her parents and brothers. In her movies she trys to play "herself", I mean she trys to show her multi-dimensonal and colorful personality as much as possible. If you have ever seen her in The Mask of Zorro (98) (DVD, VHS), or in Entrapment (99) (DVD, VHS), you will be convinced, that she would be a perfect Lara Croft in the movie. Actually, she is the best for the role, and nobody comes even close to her. The latest CZJ movie in the theatres is The Haunting (99) (DVD, VHS). The film which drew the attention of producer Steven Spielberg to her was the Titanic (96) (VHS). I've also selected several images for you in order to compare Lara Croft and Catherine Zeta-Jones in different poses. Injoy them!
Vital statistics: 5'11" (180 cm) 32DD-25-36, hair brown, eyes brown, weight 64 kg. Lucy Clarkson (born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, UK) is the new Lara, who has the same initials (LC) and body dimensions as Lara Croft. Lucy is the youngest and tallest Lara model so far. One of her first job as Lara Croft was to deliever the first VooDoo5-5500 retail card to a 14 year old winner.
Vital statistics: 5'8" (173 cm) 34D-24-34, hair brown, eyes brown. Lara Weller (born in Holland) is really Lara, so we are maybe finally found the best person for modelling Lara Croft. Lara Weller is nice and pretty (of course...) and likes the healthy foods and life style. She is quite sporty, with passions of adventuring and traveling...
Vital statistics: 5'8" (173 cm) 32D-25-36, hair brown, eyes green. Nell was the second official model of Lara Croft. She is beautiful and very pretty. A good girl, without a tiny wickedness. Unfortunately, because Lara Croft has some (though not too much) of it. Nell went on with her modelling career by appearing in the Playboy Magazine. (The naked Nell is also very nice...). Before doing this, she separeted from Eidos Interactive in peace. (Did I mention, that she's a good girl (:-)))?)
Vital statistics: 5'8" (173 cm) 34DD-24-35. The first, and the #1 model of Lara Croft of all times! She is very pretty, athletic, and has a nice look similar to that of Lara Croft's. Even more, she has the right kind of voice (you can check it in Tomb Raider 2), and what's more, she could sing!. Actually she is a confident actress, not just a model, and soon became extremely popular among the Lara Croft fans all over the world. Unfortunately, there happened some serious disagreement (I don't know exactly on what) that urged Eidos Interactive to fire Rhona. So, she can't be Lara Croft in the movie (:-(((.
Ali became Miss USA in 1996, so you may think that she is beautiful - and you are right! What is more, she is rather similar to the look of Lara Croft. Sometimes she appeares as television presenter, and in one occasion I discovered that she also quite smart. She played also some minor roles in TV productions, like in "The Bold and the Beautiful" (1987). Of course, this is not a guarantee that she would be a good Lara Croft. Ali could have been a good Lara Croft model at exhibitions, but for the movie we need something more.
Angelina is the lucky actress who will actually play Lara Croft in the upcoming
Tomb Raider (2001) movie.
I saw Angelina in
Playing by Heart (1998)
and in The Bone Collector (1999)
She is obviously a talented actress. However, regarding her physical appearence (her face
and the tattoos), I think she is NOT like Lara Croft. Her character is also different.
Although Angelina seems to be an independent and strong-willed person (which is very good),
I'm afraid her real style is quite different from Lara Croft's. Angelina is very
attractive and sexy in her extravagant way, but far from the ambition of being perfect.
(For comparison, check out the 41 years old
Madeleine Stowe in the same film, how much she was more
attractive than Angelina...) Well, Angelina is quite nice and pretty (in her own way),
but she is simply not the very special English high society girl, that we love (:-(((. In
The Bone Collector (1999)
she plays a leading role, a young detective, and could have been like Lara Croft
- but wasn't. Recently she won an
for her supporting role played in
Girl, Interrupted (1999)
At the ceremony Angelina had a black painted hair, and looked quite poorly, actually.
The latest movie I saw starring Angelina is the
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000).
Angelina plays the only female member of a car stealing gang, so the role fits quite well
to her real character. Unfortunately, the movie does NOT fully utilize her excellent acting
abilities. She just makes several (otherwise very good!) glances. I think the movie could
have been much better, if Angelina had more things to do, for example to control the
rival gang! Angelina rides a motorcycle (for a few seconds) in the movie, which is very
good (:-))). Up to now this movie is the biggest box office success for Angelina.
($96.5M, USA) However, it is very likely, that the production was planned to earn
even more, because the budget was also rather high ($90M).
Rather a playmate (of the Year of 1993) than a real actress, nevertheless you can see her also in Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994). I think she has a really beautiful body, that's all. I included her in the list just because there are some of us (I mean Lara Croft fans), who think that the most (and almost only) really valuable feature of Lara Croft is her sensational body.
Recently I have seen Ashley playing a "Lara Croft type" role (Libby) in
Double Jeopardy (1999)
In this (otherwise not bad) movie Ashley reveals many of the essential Lara Croft's qualities!
She's pretty, nice, elegant, sexy, sporty (running, climbing, swimming and fighting!), uses
computers, vehicles and gun, loves art, makes jokes, travels around, she is brave and
inventive, etc. A very typical Lara Croft-type action was her escaping from the casket
by the help of a lighter and a gun.
Carrie-Anne Moss recently played very well the role Trinity in the really good sci-fi title The Matrix (1999) (DVD, VHS). She is strong, athletic, pretty and quite good at playing intelligent and determined women, so I think Carrie-Anne has a future in Hollywood. She is also similar a little bit to Lara Croft. However, doesn't seems to be as stylish, easy-flowing and sexy (:-(((.
Cori is one of the most popular playboy, glamour and fitness stars today. She has a really beautiful body, face and hair. Look at her pictures, and you will immediately realize, that the extreme body features of Lara has already been materialized (:-))) - well, at least in one case. What is even more, Cori is strong, flexible and smart, thank to the hard fitness training. The only problem is her probably missing acting talent (:-(((. (Otherwise she have been a filmstar already.)
Similarly to Madaleine Stowe, Diane Lane is another fine example of the nice, pretty and stylish actresses. First I confronted her attractive character in Judge Dredd (1995) (DVD, VHS), and after that in Knight Moves (1992) (VHS). One of her latest movie is A Walk on the Moon (1999) (VHS). I think Diane is an excellent actress, however, I'm not sure about her physical strenght (:-(((.
This excellent actress made a lot of good movies, like Ghost (1990) (VHS), Indecent Proposal (1993) (VHS, VHS2), The Juror (1996) (DVD, VHS), Striptease (1996) (DVD, VHS), etc. Usually she plays very sexy and determined females. I think this is in accordance with her real character, what is good. On the other side, her style is not so easy-flowing, that we would expect from an actress playing Lara Croft. Another sad issue is that she is also growing out of the role (:-(((.
Denise ("StarshipTroopers") Richards became a big star after her noticable appearances in Starship Troopers (1997) (DVD, VHS), and later in Wild Things (1998) (DVD, VHS). She was quite good, especially in respect of her beautiful body... Lately she made Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) (DVD, VHS), which is NOT going to be a big box-office success. I don't know why (up to now I haven't seen the film), but can be an omen. Paraphrasing the title of her next (James Bond) movie (The World is Not Enough (1999)) (DVD, VHS), can we guess that "the beautiful body is not enough"? Well, I think Denise Richards is a charming person, and possibly could act quite well gentle characters. Nevertheless, to play Lara Croft requires a more initiative, more "fighty" personality. Returning to the James Bond movie, sometimes you can see Denise in very nice Lara Croft style dress, what is a good point of the film...
Thanks to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) (DVD, VHS), and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) (DVD, VHS), she became an "international woman of mystery". She is nice, pretty, has the right kind of voice and style, so she could be a good Lara Croft. However, I'm not sure about her athletic abilities. One of her latest movie is My Favorite Martian (1999) (DVD, VHS).
Well, I don't know much about this actress. I saw her in GoldenEye (1995) (DVD, VHS), where she played a smart and very pretty (nevertheless wicked) "action lady". However, she was not like Lara Croft, at least for me (:-(((.
To tell the truth, not frequently happens, that a German actress becomes world-wide known. What a pity, because some of them are quite good! For example Iris Berben is not just pretty, stylish and excellent as an actress, but also rather similar to Lara Croft! Well, now she is not so young anymore (:-(((, and you can see her almost only in German TV productions. The first film I saw with her was the Das Viereck (1987) (TV), and I can say I was very impressed! My second meet her was the TV series Das Erbe der Guldenburgs (1987) (TV series). Some of her latest films are Rosa Roth - Die Stimme (1997) (TV), Rosa Roth - Berlin (1997) (TV) and żBin ich schön? (1998).
Fresh, pretty and beautiful - one of the most popular latin actresses, best known from the Money Train (1995) (DVD, VHS) and Anaconda (1997) (DVD, VHS). She's not just an actress, but an excellent singer too, check out Selena (1997) (VHS)! Unfortunately, Jennifer is not athletic enough (has a little weight problem) to be a smart Lara Croft (:-(((. However, she showed some good fighting (boxing) abilities in Money Train (1995).
Jennifer is the "Benjamin" of my list. I think she's a very promising actress:
nice, pretty, talented, intelligent and always playful and jolly. Although she is
only 20, already has made a lot of films (first as a child). You can know her from
"Party of Five" (1994)
or from the tini horrors
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
She can be so graceful, as in
Audrey Hepburn (1999).
One of the most beautiful actresses of the decade, worldwide known from the moment she made her magnificent appearence in Pretty Woman (1990) (DVD, VHS). Since then she became a female superstar and proved many times her acting talent combined with a very attractive appearance. I can suggest to see her in Sleeping with the Enemy (1991) (VHS), The Pelican Brief (1993) (DVD, VHS), My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) (DVD, VHS), Runaway Bride (1999) (DVD, VHS), Notting Hill (1999) (DVD, VHS) and Erin Brockovich (2000) (DVD, VHS). Despite her undeniable excellence in romantic stories, I'm afraid, she's far from being smart enough for the role of Lara Croft in athletic point of view (:-(((. However, in Runaway Bride she's horse riding, boxing, kicking, and running (away (:-))) ), that is quite promising... If you have the chance, don't miss Notting Hill, because it's one of the best commedies in 1999!
Kari would be quite nice, pretty, sexy (I mean really very sexy) Lara Croft!
She also seems to be strong and graceful enough at the same time. Kari proved
her "adventuring abilities" in the
sci-fi TV series. Don't miss
or if you would like to see some really hot stuff, her earlier films... One of her latest film is
Katie Holmes became quite popular after the TV series "Dawson's Creek" (1998) (DVD, VHS1, VHS2). She is very nice, pretty and similar to Lara Croft regarding her physical appearence. I don't know much about her athletic abilities. There is a little problem with her voice: it's childish to a certain extent (:-(((. So I can imagine her playing the youngster Lara Croft, but the adult. You can see her also on the big screen, in Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999) (DVD, VHS) for example.
Known from The Terminator (1984) (DVD, VHS), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) (DVD, VHS) and Dante's Peak (1997) (DVD, VHS), she's quite a good action lady, however, not very similar to Lara Croft. Another problem is, that she already has grown out of the role (:-(((.
You can know Lucy from the "Xena: Warrior Princess" (1995) (DVD) TV series. Unfortunately, she has more than enough body strength and a very characteristic face which makes her less graceful then Lara Croft in our mind (:-(((.
Madeleine is a very cool actress in the best sense of the word. Intelligent, pretty, beautiful, sexy and talented with the speciality of being undemanding - which is very rare among the actresses (I mean big stars). First I sew her magical presence in Revenge (1990). There are other excellent movies with her memorable acting, like The Last of the Mohicans (1992) (DVD, VHS), Twelve Monkeys (1995) (DVD, VHS), and recently Playing by Heart (1998) (DVD, VHS), The General's Daughter (1999) (DVD, VHS). Regarding Lara Croft, unfortunately Madeleine is not strong or athletic enough, and also has grown out of the role (:-(((.
I don't know too much about this young Italian actress, except that she was quite good as one of the three Bond-girls in the latest 007 movie: The World Is Not Enough (1999) (DVD, VHS). As you can see from the images, she is very pretty and also similar to Lara Croft. What is more, in the Bond movie she successfully disclosed her smartness in physical respects. I don't know, however, how good is her English (:-(((. I hope that we will have the opportunity to see her in more big budget movies...
You can remember Mathilda as the extremely seductive "Space Girl" in Lifeforce (1985) (DVD, VHS). (A must to see!) She's French, as well as most of her films. However, you can also see her in The Jackal (1997) (DVD, VHS). Mathilda is not very athletic (:-(((, but really very beautiful and quite similar to Lara Croft.
Pamela is a classical Baywatch (BW) star, see her in: "Baywatch" (1989), Baywatch: River of No Return (1995) (TV), Baywatch: Forbidden Paradise (1995) (V). She has a perfect body, which was also discovered by Playboy, see Playboy: The Best of Pamela Anderson (1995) (V). Although her face and hair are not very similar to Lara Crofts (:-(((, and her acting abilities seems to be rather limited (:-(((, we have a very good reason to look at her regarding the upcoming Tomb Raider movie. That's because 4 years ago she played an action lady with big breasts and big guns in a big budget movie - and it was a total disappointment (:-(((, well, at least for me: Barb Wire (1996) (DVD, VHS). If you happen to think, that these "big" attributes are enough for a great movie, check the Barb Wire immediately! I think for Tomb Raider: The Movie we definitely need a much more meaningful story and a talented actress! Like in the case of Anna Nicole Smith, the beautiful body is NOT enough.
Rynn is the very young female star of the fantasy-advanture game Drakan: Order of the Flame, developed lately by PSYGNOSIS. Rynn has many common features with Lara Croft (physical strength and smartness, ability to fight and to use different tools, nice look and voice, similar long hair (ponytail+color), sexy dresses, etc. There are, however, some differences too. Rynn is much younger (under 20), and less acrobatic than Lara Corft. Her breasts are quite nice, but at the bottom section seems to be (still) a little bit under-developed (but the model!). Rynn has a permanent friend - a Dragon. (By the way, do you remember Dragonheart (96) (DVD, VHS)?) With her dragon Rynn can fly, which is very exciting! Actually the whole game is very good (regarding the graphics, music, sounds, speech, puzzles, combats, etc.), so I'm sure, if Tomb Raider: The Movie turns out to be a big box office success, there going to be a movie version of Drakan too...
You could see her in Speed (1994) (DVD, VHS) in Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997) (DVD, VHS), or in The Net (1995) (DVD, VHS) for example. Sandra is very pretty with a lot of dynamism. After the Forces of Nature (1999) (DVD, VHS) for example. I can say, with too much of forced dynamism. Somehow she is in shortage of the easy-flowing style of Lara Croft (:-(((. (There are some criticism about her breast size too.)
She's an extremely beautiful and very talented singer (a country superstar), who is brimming with life and looks very similar to Lara Croft. I don't know, however, how good she would be as an actress, or how smart she would be in athletic point of view (:-(((. Anyway, a very fine person...
After playing in several not definitely big movie (like the Police Academy 4 (1987)) Sharon Stone became a well known star when she played Lori in Total Recall (1990) (DVD, VHS) for example. (She was athletic enough to fight with Schwarzenegger!!) Her next milestone movie was the Basic Instinct (1992) (DVD, VHS), after she became a major sex symbol of the early nineties. Well, she is very nice, pretty, sexy, intelligent, strong, determined and athletic, so she has really many attributes of Lara Croft (:-))). However, she is not stylish, jolly and easy-flowing enough to be a great Lara Croft (similar problem with Sigourney Weaver), and also, her face and hair are a little bit different (though, very nice), not to mention age problems (:-(((. I included her into my list mainly because she once played a "lady with a gun" role in The Quick and the Dead (1995) (DVD, VHS). I'm afraid, that movie was not very good. Maybe, somewhat better than Barb Wire (1996) (DVD, VHS) with Pamela Anderson Lee, but not good enough. It was an unlucky combination of standard western and parody. The lesson is, that Tomb Raider: the Movie must NOT be a self-parody, nor parody of other movie titles. It should be about the exciting advatures of an exceptional woman - who seems to be real!
She became a big movie star after playing Ellen Ripley in the epoch-making sci-fi/horror Alien (1979) (DVD, VHS). Sigourney Weaver, as well as Ellen in the film is intelligent, strong, and very determined person. She was the prototype of the new female action hero. In this respect can be regarded as the predecessor of Lara Croft. However, Lara in our mind is much more feminine and fine. Sigourney Weaver proved her acting talents in many excellent movies, like Ghostbusters (1984) (DVD, VHS), Aliens (1986) (DVD, VHS), Working Girl (1988) (VHS), Ghostbusters II (1989) (DVD, VHS), Alien3 (1992) (DVD, VHS), Dave (1993) (DVD, VHS), Copycat (1995) (DVD, VHS) and Alien: Resurrection (1997) (DVD, VHS) A sad thing, that Sigourney Weaver has grown out of the role of Lara Croft. Actually, she is the seniour in my list.
15 years ago she could have been a wonderful Lara Croft. Actually, she was something very similar (Laura Holt) in "Remington Steele" (1982) (playing together with Pierce Brosnan). You can also admire her natural beauty, goodness and enterpreneurial skills in Love on the Run (1985) (VHS1, VHS2). (If you have the opportunity, a must to see!) There are many other excellent TV films around with her elegant, beautiful, sporty, sexy, exciting, jolly and clever presence. Unfortunately, she has grown out of the role of Lara Croft. I really am sorry about that (:-(((.
A very nice and intelligent actress mostly recognised as Lois in
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993).
You have to see her also in
Tango & Cash (1989)
or in the James Bond movie
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Tia Carrere is not just pretty and nice, but also smart and talented as an actress. One of her big success was in Wayne's World (1992) (VHS), and also in Wayne's World 2 (1993) (VHS) and in True Lies (1994) (DVD, VHS). She can play well adventurers. Lately, you can see her in this type of role in the TV series "Relic Hunter" (1999). Because of her exotic (though very nice) face, it is quite obvious, that can't play Lara Croft, who is an English girl (:-(((.
The French unofficial model of Lara Croft. She could be seen in several model-related TV series, but up to now I haven't seen any of them. From the photos she seems to be stylish, but I'm afraid that she's not smart enough to be a really good Lara Croft, especially in the film (:-(((.
You can know Victoria Adams from the world famous woman pop group Spice Girls, as Posh Spice. She is always elegant and stylish (:-))). A typical English upper class girl (well, already a mother and the wife of the football star David Beckham). Probably she is the sexiest and, most popular spice. Victoria is a determined person, who knows exactly what she wants, and has a solid opinion about different things (and people). As a singer, she has a beautiful voice, but otherwise not a wordy character. So, Victoria has many common features with Lara Croft. She has some deficiencies, however, too. For example, it is very hard to imagine Posh Spice in a place or activity, where she can be dirty (:-(((... Another problem is that her physical strength and smartness is quite uncertain (:-(((. (Maybe, her husband will make a good influence on her for sports.) There is also some criticism about her acting talent. I'm not afraid of this, because I saw her in "Spice World" (1997) (DVD, VHS), where she could present herself in a very professional way. As far as the character to be played is similar enough to the real character of Victoria, everything is OK. In Spice World she proved her good sense of humor and her ability to control even a bus...
She had the sweet look and the splended body combined with physical strength while remained graceful at the same time. Intelligent and very determined person (not just in her movies). Mostly known as Pamela from the "Dallas" (1978). One of her earliest movies was Earthquake (1974) (DVD, VHS). I think after the Dallas she should have made more films to exploit her talent. Anyway, those years are over and we should find somebody else to play Lara Croft (:-(((.
The femme fatale (Scarlett O'Hara) in the movie evergreen Gone with the Wind (1939) (DVD, VHS), (a must to see). Vivien was very charming, pretty, beautiful, stylish and self-conscious (actually self-willed) in order to realize her dreams in the film - just like in her real life. I don't know much about her athletic abilities, but I know she liked to travel around the world to discover exciting new places. The role of Scarlett was the first serious role for an actress in a Hollywood production, and Vivien went to Hollywood directly to seize that role!.. I remember her also in another movie title Caesar and Cleopatra (1946) (DVD, VHS).
Winona Ryder is a talented young actress, who can play rather determined characters, just see her in Alien: Resurrection (1997) (DVD, VHS), even though, she seems to be quite delicate. Unfortunately, to a certain extent the physical appearence is also important for the role of Lara Croft. Winona Ryder is really very nice and charming, but somehow "thin" (:-(((. One of her current movies is Girl, Interrupted (1999) (DVD, VHS).
And now, something different...
|Surprisingly, the avarage age of Lara look-a-likes (models and actresses) coincides very well with the official age of Lara Croft. (Catherine Zeta-Jones is a little bit younger.) Alternative ID Cards of Lara [1, 2, ]|
